چکیده
Direct simulations of two-dimensional channel flow a viscoelastic fluid have revealed the existence family Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) attractors that is nonlinearly self-sustained by viscoelasticity [Shekar et al., J.Fluid Mech. 893, A3 (2020)]. Here, we describe evolution this branch in parameter space and its connections to Newtonian TS attractor elastoinertial turbulence (EIT). At Reynolds number $Re=3000$, there solution with TS-wave structure but which not connected branch. fixed Weissenberg number, $Wi$ increasing from 3000-10000, goes displaying striation weak polymer stretch localized at critical layer an extended sheet very large stretch. We show transition directly tied strength fluctuations can be attributed coil-stretch when local hyperbolic stagnation point Kelvin cat's eye wave exceeds $\frac{1}{2}$. $Re=10000$, unlike $3000$, evolves continuously into EIT state as increased zero about $13$. how stress fields changes, highlighting particular "sheet-shedding" process individual sheets associated break up form layered multisheet characteristic EIT.

Optimal flow control based on POD and MPC and an application to the cancellation of Tollmien-Schlichting waves
A reduced-order model based on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is presented which is suitable for active control in fluid dynamical systems. The POD basis is based on snapshots (Finite Element discretizations of the Navier-Stokes equations) of the uncontrolled state and impulse response snapshots. Error estimates for this setting are proved. The reduced set of basis functions is used for ...
متن کاملA Phase Equation Approach to Boundary Layer Instability Theory: Tollmien Schlichting Waves
Our concern is with the evolution of large amplitude Tollmien-Schlichting waves in boundary layer ows. In fact the disturbances we consider are of a comparable size to the unperturbed state. We shall describe two-dimensional disturbances which are locally periodic in time and space. This is achieved using a phase equation approach of the type discussed by Howard and Kopell (1977) in the context...
متن کاملParametric study of a viscoelastic RANS turbulence model in the fully developed channel flow
One of the newest of viscoelastic RANS turbulence models for drag reducing channel flow with polymer additives is studied in different flow and rheological properties. In this model, finitely extensible nonlinear elastic-Peterlin (FENE-P) constitutive model is used to describe the viscoelastic effect of polymer solution and turbulence model is developed in the k-ϵ-(ν^2 ) ̅-f framework. The geome...
متن کاملLinear dynamics of weakly viscous accretion disks : A disk analog of Tollmien - Schlichting waves
This paper discusses new perspectives and approaches to the problem of disk dynamics where, in this study, we focus on the effects of viscous instabilities influenced by boundary effects. The Boussinesq approximation of the viscous large shearing box equations is analyzed in which the azimuthal length scale of the disturbance is much larger than the radial and vertical scales. We examine the st...
متن کاملApplication of biorthogonal eigenfunction system for extraction of Tollmien-Schlichting waves in acoustic receptivity simulations
Acoustic receptivity of a two-dimensional boundary layer on a flat plate with elliptic leading edge is studied through direct numerical simulation (DNS). Sound waves are modelled by a uniform oscillation of freestream boundaries in time which results to an infinite-wavelength acoustic wave. Acoustic disturbances interact with strong streamwise gradients at the leading edge or surface nonhomogen...
